It’s easy to confuse what a brand could be in today’s bustling marketplace. Adverts bombard customers from every angle and a name slowly just becomes another term they learn to resent.
However, there are a few names that pervade and permeate this grey cowl that covers the hearts and minds of the people. These few companies have managed to do something with their names, they’ve offered an invaluable or superior service and become what it really means to be a brand.
In many emerging markets, mobile phones have transformed the way people live. They are a driving force for socio-economic development in the world.
Socio-economic development is measured according to GDP, life expectancy, literacy, and employment levels. Causes of socio-economic impacts include new technologies, changes in laws, changes in the physical environment and even ecological changes.
Mobile commerce has already begun to impact socio-economic development in emerging economies around world. Its increasing acceptance of the mobile phone as an enabler of access to banking services will, in my opinion, encourage the creation of new financial ecosystems.
By observing the frontrunners of m-commerce, in those countries where mobile person-to-person transfers are commonplace – such as in Kenya or East Asia, mobile service providers and financial institutions are learning valuable insights into customer behavior.
For example, the majority of transactions in emerging economies, “are being conducted using conventional feature phones, and not sophisticated smart phones,” wrote Eric Savitz in Forbes recently. “These and other examples illustrate an exciting “innovation inversion,” in which emerging economies are showing developed ones how to redefine commerce,” he concludes.

Era il 4 ottobre del 1965 quando le più importanti testate della stampa americana – New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Business Week, New York Herald Tribune – titolano a piena pagina: “The first desk top computer of the world”.
Un team di giovani ricercatori dell’Olivetti di Ivrea, diretti dall’ingegnere Piergiorgio Perotto aveva presentato alla fiera di New York il primo Personal Computer: la Programma 101, un calcolatore grande come una macchina da scrivere, pensato per il singolo utente in un’epoca in cui i calcolatori erano enormi, complicati e inaccessibili.
I visionari ragazzi dell’Olivetti avevano dato vita ad un’invenzione straordinaria, una rivoluzione copernicana che avrebbe cambiato il mondo!
